An Estate Above the Pacific

Set high on Campanil Hill with the ocean filling every west-facing window, this one is an estate in the old Santa Barbara sense — an oak-lined drive, formal rooms that open straight onto the terrace, a wood-paneled billiards room, and a tennis court cut into the hillside above the channel. I shot it from the motor court in the morning through to the last of the sun going down behind the islands, and the twilight hour here is something else: the whole house lights up above the water. One of the most complete properties I've had the chance to photograph.
